Getting Here & Getting Ready | Your Practical Travel Guide to Takla Lake & Sustutdene Eco Resort
There’s something special about a place that isn’t easy to get to. Not difficult in a stressful way – but intentional and secluded from the rest of the busy day-to-day. A place that asks you to slow down before you even arrive. Sustutdene Eco Resort provides exactly that experience. SER sits on the shores of Takla Lake, tucked deep into northern British Columbia, where the trip here becomes all part of your unforgettable journey.
And while it may feel remote, getting here is simpler than you might expect – especially when you know what to plan for.
This guide is here to help you arrive with ease, settle in quickly, and spend less time worrying – and more time fully enjoying your stay.
The Journey In | How to Get to Takla Lake
Getting to Sustutdene Eco Resort is part of the adventure – and there are a few different ways to make your way in, depending on your travel style.
By Floatplane | The Most Seamless Arrival
Many of our guests choose to arrive on-location by floatplane, which offers a short and direct but truly unforgettably senic route into Takla Lake:
- Depart from Smithers, BC
- Approximately a 30-minute flight
- Scenic aerial views of lakes, forests, and mountain ranges
- Direct landing on Takla Lake and just a stone’s throw away from the Sustutdene Eco Resort
This option removes the guesswork and brings you straight into the experience.
By Road | For the Adventurous Traveller
Driving is possible, but requires preparation and awareness of conditions.
- Access is via forestry service roads
- Road conditions depend on the season and the weather
- A high-clearance vehicle is strongly recommended
- Travel time can be longer than expected due to the terrain
If you do choose to drive to Sustutdene Eco Resort, we recommend checking in with the resort ahead of time for the most up-to-date road conditions.
